What Hyper-milling Can Do For You…when It Is Done Right

With the astounding rise in fuel prices and no relief in sight its up to you to find ways to lower your fuel usage or increase your fuel efficiency. There are many ways for you to do both. But the main way to lower your fuel usage would be to either cut down on your car usage and find other means of transportation unless its an emergency. Which could include bike riding public transportation walking or car pooling. Some are quiter feasible however most of them are not.

The best thing you can do in todays day and age with the rise of fuel going out of control is to improve your fuel efficiency. There are quite a few ways to do this some are easy and inexpensive some are hard and cost tons of money which we are trying to save as it is however most just do not work at all.

A common way to try and improve your MPG is to do whats called “hypermilling”. This is why that consists of:

Aiming to not go over 55 mph
Keep tire pressures at maximim sidewall pressure
Let foot off gass completely when you see cars start to bunch up ahead
Slow acceleration; keep your engine in the most efficent RPM as much as possible.
Get to the highest gear ASAP and stay within your cruising speed
Slow down when climbing hills.
Avoid driving in the rain tires pushing water out of the way costs your energy
Use a solar reflector to keep the car cool and let the car cool off before turning on the A/C otherwise you might be tempted to turn it on full blast
Check to see when the best time to change the oil in YOUR type of car is. 3000 miles is not always best sometimes its around the 5000 7500 mile range.
Check your engine filter and change it if its dirty
Remove excess weight from your car. Keep the trunk as empty as possible only have your emergency kit in there if possible.
Invest in a GPS Nav. So that you con properly plan your route ahead of time so that you are taking the least amount of left turns as possible. Being stopped at that left turn will cost your precious gas.

Use those tips for hypermilling and you should see an increase in MPG
