Keeping Your Teenage Driver Safe

Your child has just become a teenager and is already behind the wheel. This can be the most frightening part of a parents life. According to data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety car crashes take more young lives than all other causesand in larger proportion than for any other driving age group. And most of the fatal crashes and serious injuries come in the very earliest months of unsupervised driving. But you can help keep these statistics from affecting your child by simply offering them some basic driving rules.

1. Help your teens develop the right habits especially during the first six months of solo driving. Let them know right away these are the rules:

Use of safety belts is mandatory.

Teen passengers won’t be allowed initially.

Night driving will be limited.

Dont drive when you are drowsy.

Distractions e.g. text messaging are prohibited.

Speeding must be expressly prohibited. Since most new drivers don’t have the experience to handle vehicles at high speeds it’s the source of many deaths and injuries.

There will be no alcohol or drug use.

2. Set a good driving example in the way you drive:

Wear your safety belt always.

Don’t speed.

Practice defensive driving.

Don’t use your cell phone.

Don’t run red lights.

3. Develop a parent/teen driving contract. An example is available from the National Safety Council at www.nsc.org/issues/teendriving/ agreement.pdf. Many states also have sample agreements.

4. Plan to provide your teen with extra practice time in a variety of weather conditions so he or she can gain experience and confidence. If you live in a climate where the winters are challenging make sure your teens vehicle is up to par. Here are some things you can do:

Winter weather puts your vehicle’s mechanical systems and performance to the ultimate test and demands that your vehicle is in excellent condition. Make sure that your tires and all mechanical systems including your brakes are in top working order.

Take your new driver to a vacant snow or ice covered parking lot where you can safely practice slowspeed maneuvers.

A novice driver’s first ontheroad experience with winterweather driving should not be during a major blizzard. Ensure he/she waits until conditions are less severe.

If possible have your teenager practice driving on slippery roads in daylight only. Exposure to slippery roads at night should be limited until beginners have gained more experience driving in various types of winter weather.

Maintain a safe driving distance from the vehicle in front of you.

Make sure the speed limit is observed and respected.

Transform the trunk of your vehicle into a winter survival kit by filling it with essential emergency equipment including a flashlight blankets jumper cables sand and a small shovel or ice scraper.

5. Reinforce state graduated licensing programs so teens must have a longer period of supervised driving and more restrictions in the early months.

This is a just a short list but with your reinforcement a little time spent with your teen driver might protect your childs life and at the very least keep their insurance rates from going through the roof.

Put Water In My Car – Are You In Outer Space?

Just the idea of running your car on water is such a foreign concept that you’d think it would have to be some type of alien technology.

I remember hearing a group of girls back in High School talking about pouring salt water or sugar water down one of their exboy friend’s gas tank after they’d been “dumped” but I never knew if any one of them actually did it.

I do remember sitting in class and remember those three girls conversation behind me because years later I came across an article in a popular science type of magazine that talked about Brown Gas and how to get Hydrogen Gas out of water.

More specifically it talked about if we could ever figure out how to get the Hydrogen Gas out of water we would have a fuel supply that would change the world forever.

When I read that article I remembered those girls talking about pouring water down that guy’s gas tank and how funny it would have been if it were a car that ran on water just as the article described.

The truth is it wouldn’t have been very funny at all because water still will destroy your engine and pouring water down your cars fuel tank wasn’t at all what the researchers were trying to explain no matter that it came across to me like that way.

What they talked about all those years ago was separating the Hydrogen Gas from the H2O molecular structure and burning it as a fuel and not burning the water itself.

About two years ago I watched a homemade video this guy had created about how he was using Hydrogen. He used it to run his lawnmower I believe. It was actually pretty exciting because all he used was an ole beer can and some wires and his lawnmower actually ran on water err Hydrogen Gas.

It was the very first time I saw the potential of this technology working before my eyes. The lawnmower only ran for a few seconds and I remember thinking that I hope before I die that someone figures this stuff out. It sure would be great not to have to pay these high Gasoline prices.

I said it but not a full 2 years go by and I start hearing about people running full sized cars and trucks on Hydrogen Fuel and I didn’t believe it for a second. Over the years I heard about the government shut down many fuel saving hoaxes that I didn’t even want to waste my time and certainly not my money on another one.

Then this year my local gas stations prices jumped up to over 3 a gallon and I continued to see these ads about people claiming to be running their cars on water these ads were everywhere! Yet I kept waiting for some government agency to come in and shut them down just like the rest… But that never happened.

Finally I received and email about this water for fuel technology in my own in box and I decided to check it out. Low and behold I instantly recognized it as the same technology I’d read up on years earlier.

I knew Hydrogen was a viable fuel source. I knew it was a better fuel source than fossil fuels such as Gasoline or Diesel. I knew the problem has always been how to get the Hydrogen out of the water in a cost effective way and in a safe way.

The website I read all but explained every detail of the process and gave specific answers to how those problems had been overcome and it was very affordable too. To tell you the truth I was almost “gitty” with excitement! You see my wish had come true!

I lived long enough to see water being used as a fuel source to run our cars and I really didn’t have to wait that long to see it come to pass either.

You still can’t just go pour water down your gas tank unless you’re mad at them Just Kidding but now I’m confident I’ll live to see that problem solved to!
